Chunking + Island-Driven Parsing = Full Parsing
We present a novel method for improving parsing performance, using a stochastic islanddriven chart parser preceded by a chunking process for identifying initial islands. Two different stochastic models have been developed for the island-driven parsing. Some experiments with nominal chunking using broad-coverage grammars derived from the Penn Treebank have been performed with remarkable results.
متن کاملThin Parsing: A Balance between Wide Scale Parsing and Chunking
This work presents a type of parser that takes the process of chunking to the stage of producing full parse trees. This type of parser, denoted Thin Parsers (TP) in this work has the characteristics of: following a given grammar, creating full parse trees, producing only a limited number of full parse trees, parsing in linear time of sentence length. Performance standards on the Penn Tree Bank ...
متن کاملACCION PortaCredit: Increasing MFI Efficiency with Technology
Page 1 During my recent in-depth evaluation of ACCION's PortaCredit technology, I interviewed their technical staff and visited the MFIs implementing the technology. What I saw impressed me considerably. The technology takes time to implement, but when done it works and it works quite well. The most important evidence in my mind is that the operational staff love it and would never choose to go...
متن کاملIncreasing transmission efficiency with advanced signal processing
Optical CDMA is an advanced and flexible communication technology with a potential to offer very energy efficient and highly scalable networking. In addition it can also deliver increased physical layer privacy and on-demand bandwidth sharing management. We have developed, extensively investigated, and experimentally demonstrated highly scalable approach to incoherent OCDMA which can very effic...
متن کاملIncreasing Dominance with No Efficiency Effect
I uncover a new force towards increasing dominance (the property whereby, in dynamic games, the leader tends to increase his or her lead in expected terms). The new effect results from the strategic choice of covariance in races. I assume that players must choose not the amount of resources to spend but how to allocate those resources. I show that, in equilibrium, the laggard chooses a less pro...
